System description
ADS Dialog System is a dialog system for Unreal Engine 5. Its management is centralized in a Subsystem, so dialogs can be used throughout your project without depending on a particular Actor in a level.
Classic and Travel conversations
The system provides two conversation modes:
- Classic: a traditional dialog exchange displayed in its dedicated interface.
- Travel: a dialog that accompanies the player while they move.
Each conversation is stored in its own dedicated asset, making it easy to create, organize, and reuse your game's dialogs. A single conversation can include more than two speakers. A conversation can be enabled or disabled according to your progression and gameplay rules.
Lines and choices
Conversations can contain choices for the player. Each line is configured independently: it can change the active camera, modify the dialog bubble, or trigger an event.
The player can skip a conversation or advance to the next line. This progression can be manual or automatic, depending on the desired behaviour for the conversation.
Text and formatting
Dialog bubbles support rich text. They can display icons within text and apply color to selected parts of a line.
Lines can also contain variables or text portions retrieved through functions. This allows dialogs to adapt to information in your game, such as the player's name or progression state.
ADS Dialog System provides the foundations for integrating dialogs; the scenario, trigger conditions, and consequences of each choice remain defined by your project.
